Dog-Friendly Dog Walks in the North York Moors

There are plenty of amazing walks to discover on the North York Moors. One of the most relaxing dog walks in the area is the ‘Newton and Roseberry Circular’. Newton and Roseberry Circular walk is a two-mile trail which leads you through beautiful rolling hills of the North Yorkshire countryside. This walk is particularly pleasant between the months of mid-April and May as the treelined paths are then surrounded by colourful bluebells.

Wildlife

The North York Moors National Park is a breathtaking site of natural beauty which protects the incredible wildlife and plants that grow there. During a walk through the moorland or one of the forests, you may spot a wide variety of animals including roe and fallow deer, weasels, badgers, foxes, rabbits, hares, otters, snipes, birds of prey, wood mice, shrews, stoats and even seals along the coastline.

We advise all those visiting the North York Moors to keep their distance from all animals and to keep dogs on leads whenever animals/livestock are nearby.

Local History

The North York Moors has multiple astounding historic areas that can be found hidden away throughout the countryside. These historic sites include monasteries, Victorian steam trains, gothic ruins, ironstone mines and much more.

The North York Moors is home to one of the most famous abbeys in the UK, the Cistercian Abbey better known as ‘Rievaulx Abbey’. Rievaulx Abbey was originally home to a group of Catholic monks until it was abolished in 1536 by King Henry VIII. In the modern day, the abbey’s ruins are filled with information boards which explain the rise and fall of this once-great abbey.  We believe that these stunning ruins are a must-see for anyone planning to visit the North York Moors.

Danby Lodge National Park Centre

The Danby Lodge National Park Centre is one of the best visitor centres in the North York Moors. This visitor centre is filled with plenty of exhibits and artworks, interactive sculptures, prints and framed photography all inspired by the local landscape.

There is a selection of fun-filled activities to enjoy including an exciting outdoor adventure playground, an indoor climbing wall and the starting point for natural trails of the surrounding area. The Danby Lodge National Park Centre is also the perfect place to spot for a bite to eat after exploring the North York Moors, as there is an adjacent ‘Park Life Café’ which serves refreshments and light snacks sourced from the local area.  If the weather’s nice, you could also pack a picnic to enjoy whilst soaking up the scenery.
